Ordering

When are Daffy Apples “In Season”?

Daffy Apples are generally produced from late August until early November. Availability often varies depending on when fresh apples are harvested. Local customers in the Denver Metro Area may contact us to discuss order pick-up starting in late August at our factory store.

We do not ship Daffy Apples until mid September due to product temperature when shipped, and their perishable nature. Please review the Caramel Apple Ordering Deadlines & Information page for further information.

How do Apple pre-orders work?

When you place a pre-order with us, you're ensuring early access to our delicious caramel apples, with the added bonus of locking in your shipping rate. We prioritize the quality and freshness of our products, and that means we wait for the ideal conditions to ship. Here's what you need to know:

  • Expected Shipping Date: Our target start date for shipping online apple orders is Wednesday, September 12th. However, this is contingent upon the weather.
  • Why Weather Matters: We're committed to ensuring your apples arrive in the best possible condition. Shipping in temperatures above 80 degrees can compromise the quality of the apples. As such, we only ship when the weather is cool enough to guarantee your apples arrive safely.
  • Shipping Notification: As soon as we determine the conditions are right and we begin shipping, you'll receive an email notification that your product is on its way. Our current expectation is for shipments to commence on Wednesday, September 12th, weather permitting.

Please note our shipping rate calculator will show a shipping date that is incorrect, as we will not be shipping apples prior to 9/12/23.

Why don’t you sell Apples outside of Fall?

Since 1951, Daffy Apples have been made by fresh, in season, and never frozen apples. Any apples produced outside of fall are typically made from flash frozen apples, which impacts the texture, and overall flavor profile experienced. Since we can’t guarantee the same quality, we choose to only use fresh picked Apples.

Can I pick up Daffy Apples in person?

Yes! If you are interested in placing an order for pick-up, please contact us to place a phone order.

When should I place non-local Event orders for Daffy Apples?

For online event ordering, we suggest placing it 4 weeks in advance of the event date. Orders will automatically be scheduled to arrive 2-3 days prior to the event date selected for the order. Due to the perishable nature of Daffy Apples, we cannot schedule them to arrive more than a few days before the event date.

We determine the best ship date based on the event location and date. An email will be sent with the event date, ship date, and expected arrival once the order has been scheduled for shipment.

Shipping dates vary due to temperatures, as Daffy Apples are hot, cold, and humidity sensitive. We do not recommend Apples be shipped to a high humidity location or where temperatures are above 85ºF or below 32ºF. If an order is placed and must be cancelled due to hot or cold temperatures, a 10% cancellation fee will be subtracted from the refund amount.

What about local Daffy Apple Event ordering?

If you are coming directly to our factory store, please call 2 days ahead of time to schedule a pickup. All Apples are made fresh for order.

When should I place Event orders for other Daffy Products?

Caramel Apple Kits, Bulk Caramel, and all other products on our website ship any time of year. We typically require a minimum of 8 business days for processing and shipping.

Is there a way to try Daffy Apples before I place a large order?

We are unable to ship free samples but do sell apples online in packs of 12 or 24 in season if you would like to try prior to your event. If located in the Rocky Mountain region, Daffy Apples can be found in WalMart, Safeway, King Soopers, Kroger, and more stores to try in person.

If you would like to try our caramel, Daffy Caramel Apple Kits, and Caramel products ship year-round.

What do the single pack and 3 pack packages look like?

Daffy Apples are packaged in either a single pack, or three pack retail packaging.

Single pack containers are clam shell plastic containers held closed with a Daffy Apple label to hold one Daffy Apple. Single packs are often used at fairs, festivals, fundraising events and in retail settings.

Three pack containers are clam shell plastic containers held closed by a covering of food grade plastic film to hold 3 caramel apples. 3 packs are recommended when ordering for an event in which the petite caramel apples will be displayed or decoratively repackaged.

Do you offer bulk or discount pricing if I order several cases?

Daffy discounts apples when purchasing 24 vs. 12 apples. The listed online pricing for each case of 24 is the discounted price. If ordering 30 or more cases of 24 apples (720+ apples), please contact us about alternative shipping methods before placing your order.

Do you have information on fundraising?

Can I add to my order if I didn’t order enough?

The best way to add to your order is to place a second order online. Include your original order number in the “Item Notes” or "Order Notes" field at checkout, as well as any additional information that might be helpful to us in processing your order.

Can I reduce my order if I ordered too much?

Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to reduce your order. If your order has already been produced or shipped, we will not be able to change. Please review our Terms & Conditions page for more information on cancellations and refunds.

What is Daffy Apple's return policy?

Daffy Apple does not accept any returns for perishable products (all food products.) Returns of any products, perishable, or nonperishable, must be approved by a Daffy Apple representative before an item can be shipped back.

A refund will not be issued if the return was not approved before the item was shipped back, with no exceptions. Shipping will not be refunded.

How are Daffy Apple products shipped?

Daffy products are shipped via FedEx Ground or UPS. Please review our Shipping Information and Terms & Conditions pages for more information.

I want to place an Apple order, but live in a place that is currently above 80 degrees. What should I do?

For Apple orders, if you live in a state where it will be above 80 degrees during shipping, we would recommend either waiting for a cooler window, or ordering with 2 day shipping so that caramel doesn't come off the product. If ever in doubt, feel free to Contact Us!

I am trying to create an account and my state (Florida/Arizona/Hawaii/Alaska) is not listed. What do I do?

Daffy cannot ship Caramel Apples to Florida (heat), Arizona (heat), Hawaii (shipping), or Alaska (shipping). If you are ordering other products from our website, please contact us by phone to place your order. If your billing address is in one of these states, but your order will be delivered to a state that we can ship to, please contact us by phone to place your order.

How long does it take to ship products from the order date?

Most products will be shipped within 2 business days, unless out of stock.

For Daffy Apples, we only ship them made to order, so it can take up to 3-4 business days to ship from the date of the order.

How much does shipping cost?

FedEx Ground is our standard shipping method and generally takes 1-5 business days depending on where your order is being shipped. This stated 1-5 shipping days does not include required order processing or order production time, weekends, or FedEx designated holidays. Free shipping is not available for any forms of expedited or freight shipping. Items without a free shipping logo have a flat rate per item shipping cost. This shipping cost is for standard FedEx Ground Shipping and depends on the weight of the item.

The easiest way to find out the shipping cost of a specific item is to add the item to your cart, go to your cart, click on the “checkout” button, and the shipping price will be listed beside the option for FedEx Ground Shipping.

Do you ship to P.O. Boxes, Canada, Puerto Rico, etc?

Daffy Apple is unable to ship any products to P.O. Boxes, Military A.P.O & F.P.O Boxes, Canada, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, or any location outside of the United States.

Payment

When will my credit card be charged?

Your credit card will be charged at the time you place your order.

I placed an order and now I have multiple charges on my credit card. Why did I get charged more than once?

This happens when an error occurred while placing your order. Your credit card was authorized to make the purchase, but your order did not go through due to incorrect billing address, incomplete information, etc.

These transactions are pending charges and have been subtracted from your available credit but have not yet processed.

If the extra charges are pending charges, they will be cancelled by your bank and disappear in 3-5 business days. Please contact us if the charges are not still in a pending status or are not cancelled in 3-5 business days.

How big are Daffy Caramel Apples?

Daffy Apple uses “petite” apples that have a net weight of ~3 ounces, and are generally about 2 ¼ to 2 ½ inches in diameter, or the size of a baseball. The small sized apples pack a big punch and are the perfect counterbalance for our delicious caramel.

What is “Daffy Crunch” topping?

Daffy Apple crunch topping is a sweet corn cereal-based topping. It is our secret recipe that has been a top seller for over 70 years! It does not contain nuts and has a chewy, crunchy texture.

What is Daffy Apple Red Candy Caramel?

Daffy Apple Red Candy Caramel is a red caramel that is very similar to our traditional caramel, only slightly sweeter. Daffy Apple Red Candy Caramel does not harden like a candy coating, it stays soft and easy to eat like our traditional caramel.

Does Daffy Apple sell a plain caramel apple without topping?

Daffy Apple does not sell a plain caramel apple without topping because our caramel stays soft at room temperature. This makes it deliciously easy to eat, however but stick to all types of packaging.

Can I buy a Daffy Apple Caramel Apple Kit and make a plain caramel apple?

Of course! Daffy Caramel Apple Kits come with a container of caramel, caramel apple sticks, and a topping. We also sell Daffy Caramel and caramel apple sticks separately.

We do not recommend wrapping plain caramel apples without topping, in cellophane or any other wrapper, as the caramel will stick to the wrapping.

How long do caramel apples stay fresh? Do caramel apples need to be refrigerated?

Daffy Apples have a two-week shelf life and may last a bit longer if they are refrigerated.

We recommend refrigerating apples upon arrival to maximize freshness and shelf life, although refrigeration is not absolutely necessary.

It is best to keep Daffy Apples out of direct sunlight and in a cool space with low humidity. Daffy Apples should never be frozen. A “Best By” date will be printed on each package or case, and any transit time should be deducted from the two week shelf life time frame.

Are Daffy Apple Petite Caramel Apples gluten-free? Is Daffy Apple Bulk Caramel gluten-free?

Daffy Apples, Daffy Apple Traditional Caramel, and Red Candy Caramel are not gluten-free. They contain the following allergens: wheat, milk, and soy.

Do you make Daffy Apple Petite Caramels Apples without nuts?

Traditional Daffy Apples with Crunch does not include nuts, and sprinkle toppings are available with our kits. Though we do follow strict allergen guidelines when making Daffy Apples, please be aware that all Daffy Apple products are produced in a facility that also handles peanuts and tree nuts.

Are Daffy Apple Petite Caramel Apples kosher? Is Daffy Apple Bulk Caramel kosher?

All Daffy products are certified Kosher as of June 27th 2022.

How many caramel apples can I make using the bulk caramel containers?

20 oz tub – 15 apples

6.5 lb tub – 50 apples

22 lb bucket – 200 apples

5 gallon bucket (58 lbs) – 500-600 apples

These are estimates according to small/medium apple size. Daffy Bagged apples in the produce section of the grocery store are usually about this size.

If you use larger apples, you will need more caramel.

Does caramel need to be heated when applying to apples?

Yes, our caramel must be heated to 180ºF to become the right consistency to properly stick to apples. Please review our Heating Instructions for further tips on how to make caramel apples.
